BioTronics History

BioTronics has its roots in the clinical engineering department of Shadyside Hospital located in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1983 this group of 12 employees established BioTronics, Inc. to provide medical equipment repair and management services to a number of the region's hospitals and physicians practices.

Growth has been strong and consistent for BioTronics. Upon startup in the 80's, we supported hospitals and physician practices within the local Pittsburgh region. By the early 90's our services had grown to include all of Western Pennsylvania and the tri-state area, servicing general biomedical and diagnostic imaging instrumentation. Today, BioTronics' support division has further expanded to include sterilizer instrumentation and specialty services including OEM representation. BioTronics is the primary service provider for the tri-state region of Western Pennsylvania. BioTronics currently maintains well over 100,000 medical devices posessing an asset value approaching $1 billion.

The customers of BioTronics have become more diverse as well. Hospital customers range from multi-hospital health systems to rural hospitals. BioTronics also provides support to over 550 physician's offices and clinics in the region.

In response to increasing demand, BioTronics created a surgical instrument repair business that maintains surgical instruments in like-new condition. In 1993 a Perfusion Services group was formed. Designed to meet the growing need for certified perfusionists and equipment, the fully-certified staff of clinical perfusionists are able to provide a contract-based alternative to an in-house perfusion staff that includes everything from equipment and supplies to personnel necessary to deliver safe and cost-effective cardiovascular services.
